Environmental ambition has not faltered throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, 2020 saw a rapid rise in ambition by the private and public sectors to limit warming to 1.5°C – with a record number of investors, companies and governments pledging to set science-based GHG reduction targets, protect precious water bodies, end deforestation and reverse decades of environmental injustice. As these players align their business strategies behind the demands of science, what must be done to transform this ambition into action?
At our flagship North America Workshop, we’ll dive into the topic of ambition for 1.5°C, hear key insights and updates in environmental disclosure, share best practices and find invaluable networking opportunities with peers across the sustainability field.
We have an opportunity to build back better from the pandemic. Join us and discover your next step in the transition to a sustainable economy that works for people and planet.
As this critical decade of ambition moves toward 2030 – the year by which science tells us we must reduce global GHG emissions by 50% – what are the barriers we must break through to address the climate crisis while balancing needs for more social and economic equity? Hear perspectives from key leaders in business, philanthropy and local government that will recharge and inform your efforts to plan strategically and work toward a just, sustainable and inclusive future.
The Biden Administration is putting a major emphasis on jobs creation as part of the clean energy transition, and a central pillar is an all-government approach.

This session is an introduction to CDP and an overview of CDP’s scoring methodology and resources, including how to advance along the journey to environmental best practice. The information covered will be of value to those actively involved in CDP disclosure. We will offer break out rooms to discuss key thresholds along the company journey, targets and renewable energy procurement.

Capacity Building: How Financial Institutions Can Measure and Disclose Financed Emissions in Order to Enhance Understanding of Climate Impact
The Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) has published a Global Accounting Standard that details the process and methods for measuring financed emissions. PCAF and CDP are working to create clearer linkages in the process to reduce emissions among financial institutions. This session will go in-depth into the PCAF Global Accounting Standard and how a financial institution can implement it in conjunction with CDP's annual disclosure. We will be discussing the long-term outcomes of accounting and disclosure, touching on the implications towards target-setting.
Environmental action in supply chains is crucial to driving forward ambitious sustainability targets. This session will provide an initial overview of 1.5°C-aligned Science-Based Targets, and why effective supply chain engagement is critical to set and achieve them. CDP Supply Chain members will share how their supplier engagement efforts progressed over time to support their own ambitious target setting and tracking.

Experts worldwide are calling for a food system transformation within the next decade if we are going to be able to feed a growing population sustainably while meeting global climate and environmental goals. This session will introduce CDP’s Sustainable Food Systems Initiative, detailing the business and environmental case for a food systems transformation and the key actions that have been identified for the corporate food value chain as it relates to the CDP disclosure journey. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and hear from food companies who are working toward a resilient and sustainable food future by implementing actions such as: planning their transition strategies, implementing traceability schemes in their supply chains, and driving good agriculture practices in their value chains. Attendees will be invited to identify gaps in their capacity to address these challenges and discuss potential solutions.
Businesses must be ready to face the shocks and stressors posed by the degradation of nature and changing climate. Water stewardship is integral to business strategies to achieve net-zero GHG emissions and holistically increase resilience. With the growing need for environmental action and sustainable infrastructure, public and private sector engagement have become more important. All pathways to a 1.5°C future assume a halt in deforestation and significant forest restoration. Despite global commitments made in 2014 to halt deforestation by 2020, 10 million hectares have been lost since 2015 with agricultural production and trade being key drivers. A paradigm shift is needed. This session will bring together three perspectives: investor, corporate and subnational government to discuss a collaborative path to support and incentivize action towards a forest-positive world by 2030.
The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated communities and deepened inequalities. City resources have been diverted to COVID-19 response and tax revenue has plummeted, making it challenging for local governments to respond to the health, economic, social injustice and climate crises. Despite these challenges, cities are leading on local action and a significant portion of expected federal relief will be deployed at the subnational level. This session will explore how cities are supporting a sustainable and equitable recovery that creates jobs, reduces GHG emissions and strengthens communities.
